A Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) has ordered the rearrest of Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) leaders Benito and Wilma Tiamzon.

The Tiamzons are facing murder charges over the killing of 15 civilians in Leyte province. They were granted bail in 2016 to allow them to participate in peace negotiations between the government and the communist movement.

Judge Thelma Bunyi-Medina of Manila RTC Branch 32 said the court found “no reason to further allow their temporary liberty” following President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation No. 360, which terminated the peace negotiations between the government and the National Democratic Front (NDF).
